Do I Need Therapy?

Maybe you have found yourself asking yourself this very question: Do I need therapy/should I go to therapy? I absolutely love this question for so many reasons. The quick answer is both yes and no (I know right?!), and here’s why.

Yes:

1. If you are questioning it, you possibly have something you might benefit from working on or exploring.

2. I personally think everyone can benefit from having a safe space with a neutral person (therapist) to navigate hardships and talk through things.

3. Even with the best support system and coping skills in the world, sometimes people still want some additional input, support, and education.

No:

1. Not everyone has a “need” for therapy, meaning not everyone has a firm diagnosable mental health condition – but sometimes these people still want someone to talk to other than their loved ones.

2. Some people have amazing coping skills but still want to learn more to continue to enhance what they currently have.

At the end of the day, the choice whether to engage in therapy or not is a personal and individual choice. If you think you could benefit from therapy, reach out and see if you might be a good fit. Yes, you could benefit from therapy, especially if you feel like you have things to talk through and work on. No, you might not need therapy but maybe still want to talk with a therapist to just navigate changes, challenges, build additional skills, or more. Therapy can be very unique and individual to what you need. Everyone has different needs in therapy.
