Mental health encompasses various aspects of our daily functioning. We all have mental health just as well have physical health. There are differing views on what the 5 C’s are but here the ones that stood out to me to share.
What are the 5 C’s?:
Conection
Compassion
Community
Care
Coping
Each of the C’s make up components that we each need for our mental health. Community and connection help us to remain part of something bigger outside ourselves. It allows us to build supports, maintain relationships, and build a sense of purpose. Coping helps us maintain healthy ways to manage the stressors life can throw at us. Compassion and care allow us to support ourselves and others. All of these components both separate and together, allow us to promote healthy well-being. These allow us to prioritize our mental health, offer support and care to others, and even offer a sense of relatability.
Some other examples of the 5 C’s include but are not limited to the following:
Clarity
Confidence
Character
Competence
Commitment
In other words, there are more than 5 C’s of mental health due to varying perspectives on what the most important components are. Each are important and play a crucial role in our mental health, overall well-being, and functioning. These are all important and help set us up for success.
Why are the 5 C’s so important? They work together and also separately to help us prevent burnout and prioritize our mental health needs. We all have differing needs and things that are important to us that impact us all differently. Check into what your 5 C’s are. What do you think? What are your 5 C’s of mental health and why?
